In Memoriam: Arthur Bartell

BartellArthur Bartell, group president of Denver, Colorado, distributor Brand Agents, Inc. (PPAI 268947), passed away January 11. He was 85.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, and a graduate of the University of Georgia, Bartell spent six decades in the promotional products industry. His work was widely recognized as well. He won 13 Clio Awards, 24 PPAI Pyramids and a national Addy Award from the Advertising Federation of the United States during his career. And in 2012, he provided the promotional products for the Super Bowl-winning New York Giants.

Bartell served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and prior to beginning his advertising career performed in several Broadway shows. He was passionate about animals and was known to regularly feed squirrels, rabbits and birds.

He is survived by his sons, Danny and Stephen Bartell and their wives, Carla and Irina, respectively; five grandchildren: Nathan, Jordan, Nina, Zaria and Milana; his sister, Ethel Marx, and many friends both within and outside the advertising industry.

Funeral services were held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

In Memoriam: Lowell Lumpkin

Lowell Lumpkin, a veteran sales manager with Ennis, Inc., passed away on December 25 in Kettering, Ohio. He was 73.

Lumpkin had been with Ennis as a sales manager in the Midwest region since 2004, when the Midlothian, Texas-based supplier acquired Crabar/GBF. His career in the forms design field spanned almost 50 years.

“Lowell was one of the most knowledgeable forms industry experts I’ve known,” says Terry Pennington, Ennis vice president of sales.  “He could tell you the best type of equipment and if it was uncommon, he immediately knew the small list of manufacturers that could produce it. His knowledge, hard work and friendship were unique and he will be missed.”

Outside of the office, Lumpkin’s hobbies included tending his beef cattle on the family farm in New Madison, Ohio, doing tractor pulls and hunting.

Lumpkin is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joan Brady Lumpkin; his daughter, Colette Moorman; and his son, Jon and his wife, Stephanie, who are expecting his first grandson, Hadley, in March. He is also survived by his sisters, Coleen and Sherry; sister-in-law, Donna Lumpkin; brothers-in-law, Art Smith and Frank Matanzo; nephews, Travis Lumpkin and Arthur Dale Smith; nieces, Robin Gunckle, Stacie Turner, Christine Swank and Megan Schrimmer.

Lumpkin requested his remains be donated to the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
